– A wake-up time
?
Maxime Carmignac.-
Statistically, out of four children, there is one who will get up before I wake up. Otherwise, it rings at 6:30.
The pitch of your position
?
Create financial products to help my clients achieve their long-term goals, and identify, attract, develop and retain talent.
Figures to give here and now
?
A company of 300 people, 40 nationalities, which manages 30 billion euros in assets spread across 23 strategies.
If we go back to the origins
?
Four very close children, a tribal side and parents who left us very independent. Above all, my passion for horses. From 6 to 16 years old, my life, my joys, my sorrows, it was them. I was on the French junior team, until the day when, aware that my great results came more from my horse than from me, I stopped.
A school that started it all
?
An enlightenment at Essec, during a merger-acquisition course: a professional from JP Morgan came to tell us about the takeover of Promodès by Carrefour. I found it extraordinary, pragmatic and exciting, strategic and tactical: I knew what I wanted to do.

A mentor
?
I am fortunate to have access to some of the most senior financial figures in the world. Stephen Schwarzman, CEO of Blackstone (an American investment fund), is one. I admire his limitless ambition, but above all the fact of combining emotional and intellectual quotient. It is very rare, they are often communicating vessels.
Obstacles on the road
?
After four years at Morgan Stanley and McKinsey, my first stint at Carmignac – directly under my father! – was done out of duty, not out of desire. I was too young, efficient, but not happy. I moved to a hedge fund in New York. When I returned, in 2010, it was my choice. Today, I see the family business as an opportunity, not a constraint.
A course accelerator
?
Meeting my husband in 2008. Before him, I was incomplete. Being personally fulfilled has given me great professional strength.

Who trusted you
?
My teams in my major Carmignac diversification project for ten years. Alone, we go faster, together, we go further.
What challenge for tomorrow
?
The financial emancipation of women. Explain to them that the first euro invested counts. Five years ago, I created a specific product to help them take this step and invest peacefully, sustainably.
What would you like to convey
?
I overheard my daughter telling my son, “Failing is learning.” I learned a lot like that! Hearing it from him was a highlight.
Today, I see the family business as an opportunity, not a constraint.

When do you go offline
?
Never ! Even when I run, I think about my work, with a piece of paper and a pencil in my pocket. I love racing: you can't cheat, talent and work are everything, privileges nothing!
A moment off
?
On Tuesday evening, I take turns having dinner with one of my four children. Individual attention is important.
A thought that frees you
?
Knowing how to say no is knowing how to say yes. I repeat it over and over.
The friendly hand that accompanies you
?
An incredible coach. It strives to correct the (often distorted) perception that I have of the facts.
A weekend escape
?
90% in the English countryside. We ride bikes in the mud, play billiards, table football, ping-pong. There, I only think about the present.
