In April 2024, the police will again take photos of speeders at the speed camera marathon. In 2023, lightning flashed at 1,800 measuring points in Bavaria alone in one day.
Only five federal states are taking part in both the action week against excessive speed starting on Monday and the focus day next Friday, April 19th. Six other federal states only take part in one of the two campaigns, five in neither. Other EU countries, such as Spain, France and Hungary, are also carrying out the so-called “Roadpol Operation Speed”. Italy will probably take part again, where a speed camera Robin Hood, the ‘Flexi-Man’, is currently causing problems for the authorities. The camera marathon is intended to encourage more drivers to stick to the prescribed speed limits. Ultimately, the number of annual traffic deaths in Germany was 2,788 in 2023. The most successful camera is probably in Baden-Württemberg - it triggers up to 3,000 times here.
