Munich – Speed offenders should be careful, because there will also be a nationwide speed camera marathon this year – on several days. Drivers should therefore be even more careful when accelerating in spring to avoid falling into the speed trap.

At this point, the Easter holidays in all federal states, except Schleswig-Holstein, are over. April 15th is the first day after the school break. Only five federal states are taking part in both the action week against excessive speed starting on Monday and the focus day next Friday, April 19th, with particularly intensive controls, as a survey by the German Press Agency among interior authorities and state police showed. Six other federal states only take part in one of the two campaigns, five in neither.
Specifically, Berlin, Bremen, Lower Saxony, Saarland and Saxony are not participating. Thuringia, Bavaria and Brandenburg are only taking part in the speed camera marathon on April 19th, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein are only taking part in the so-called Speedweek without a highlight on Friday - although Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is even organizing a whole month of action. Only Saxony-Anhalt, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, Hamburg and Baden-Württemberg run the full program.
Other EU countries, such as Spain, France and Hungary, are also carrying out the so-called “Roadpol Operation Speed”. The roadpol.eu website provides information about this. Italy will probably take part again, where a speed camera Robin Hood, the “Flexi-Man”, is currently causing problems for the authorities.

The focus of the speed camera marathon is primarily on April 19th. On this day, both police officers and municipal inspectors, such as those from the public order office, will be deployed from early in the morning to late in the evening. Roads where accidents and speeding occur more frequently are particularly affected. The same applies in zones near schools, kindergartens or retirement homes. As in previous years, the specific locations of the speed cameras will only be announced a few days before speed camera week.
In 2023, lightning flashed at 1,800 measuring points in Bavaria alone in one day. According to

The speed camera marathon is intended to encourage more and more drivers to stick to the prescribed speed limits. Ultimately, the number of annual traffic deaths in Germany was 2,788 in 2023.
