An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 occurred Wednesday evening in the southwest of the archipelago. No tsunami warning was issued, and no damage was reported.

A magnitude 6.0 underwater earthquake shook the northeast of the country, off the coast of Fukushima department, on April 4. With a magnitude of 7.5, it was followed by hundreds of other tremors which caused numerous buildings to collapse, spark fires, and damaged numerous infrastructures. Several hundred people also died after an earthquake on January 1 in the Noto peninsula, at the northern tip of Ishikawa department. The tremor occurred after a very violent earthquake near Taiwan, which left nine dead and more than 1,000 injured on the island, as well as extensive material damage.
