Smart is looking for a partner to create the heir to the ForTwo, and in the meantime is preparing to expand its global range with a third model called #5. In Italy it will expand the #1 offering with the new entry level Pure and Pure+. The two versions are eligible for incentives and will be available to order from the summer, with first deliveries from the beginning of September.
"The new model #5 - clarified Lucio Tropea, CEO of the brand for our country, during a call with the national press - will be unveiled in Beijing at the end of the month". For the heir to the ForTwo, a car which has been sold in the country since its launch in over 600,000 units, of which 60% are in circulation, however, it has been made clear that we will have to wait several months. "Its heir - he said - will be called #2. The Group, however, is still in the industrial verification phase in this regard: the request is to remain within the dimensional threshold of 2.7 metres. We are not evaluating the quadricycle option, it will a car with a 5-star EuroNCap objective.
At the moment, however, there is no platform on the market with the characteristics we want, which is why we are looking for a partner to share the construction costs."
In detail of the two new versions arriving in Italy, Tropea illustrated: "With a list price of 35,045 euros which with incentives drops to 26 thousand euros, or 29 thousand euros without scrapping, the Pure offers 18" alloy wheels, LED headlights, 12"8 central screen, fabric seats". For this rich 'base', retractable electric handles, three body colors, a 9"2 digital instrument panel, rear parking sensors, six airbags, automatic high beams and
a
keyless entry system are also provided as standard.
new arrival, equipped with 49 kWh batteries for a declared autonomy of 310 km, equipped with a 7.4 kW AC charging system, is included in the price list below the previous Entry Level, the Pro, confirmed at 37,545 euros and which in plus, among other things, it boasts 19" wheels, imitation leather upholstery, panoramic roof with electric curtain, tinted rear windows, heating and electric adjustment of the front seats, including the driver's seat with memories.
For the Pure+, offered at 40,045 euros, noteworthy are 66 kWh batteries for 420 km of autonomy and a 22 kW AC charging system.
Finally, in relation to the expected 2024 incentives, the manager pointed out: "The 2024 incentives were announced at the end of December, we anticipated the values of these incentives expected for May. We did this almost entirely for rental and for cases of scrapping. We have thus seen the demand for the Smart electric grow."
