The heroic act of witnesses was not enough to save her. A 77-year-old woman died Monday after her car fell into a retention pond in Orvault (Loire-Atlantique), several local media reported.
The tragedy took place around 10 a.m. this Monday morning in a commercial area of Orvault, near Nantes. A car found itself submerged in a retention basin, between two parking lots, after piercing a fence, according to Ouest-France.
In a state of shock
Several witnesses did not hesitate to jump into the water to help the driver, a 77-year-old woman. They managed to extract him from his vehicle before the firefighters arrived. The latter then tried to revive the victim for many minutes, in vain, indicates France Bleu Loire Océan. His death was pronounced by a Samu doctor.
Six witnesses to the scene, in a state of shock, were also taken care of by the firefighters. An investigation has been opened to try to clarify the circumstances of this tragedy.
