She is accused of having killed each of her daughters in succession. Roula Pispirigou was sentenced this Friday, March 29 to life imprisonment by the Assize Court of Athens (Greece), found guilty of the murder of her eldest daughter, Georgina, killed in January 2022 at the age of 9 years.
This 35-year-old woman was also convicted of attempted premeditated intentional homicide of the child, because the courts considered that she had already tried to kill her daughter in April 2021: victim of convulsions, she had become quadriplegic and resided at the hospital. It was in the very hospital where she was being treated that young Georgina died, poisoned with ketamine by her mother on January 29, 2022.
Her 3-year-old and 6-month-old daughters killed by asphyxiation
Roula Pispirigou was then arrested and placed in pre-trial detention, but the courts took care to re-examine the circumstances of the death of her two other daughters. His second child, Malena, was pronounced dead of liver failure in 2019, when she was 3 and a half years old.
Her youngest, Iris, officially died of cardiac arrest in 2021, at the age of barely 6 months. New expertise, carried out since the death of their older sister, revealed that they had in fact died of asphyxiation. Separate proceedings are underway in the case of the deaths of the two young children, and their mother is expected to answer for her actions in court again in the future.
A trained nurse, Roula Pispirigou had been nicknamed by the Greek media “the Medea of modern times” or “the Medea of Patras”, her city of origin. She proclaimed her innocence throughout the trial, which began in January 2023.
