The Nürburgring Nordschleife is a challenge. Accordingly, it is a popular test track – also for electric cars. But which electric car was the fastest here?
1 / 1010th place – Electric RaceAbout: The electric sports car was developed and built in Finland by the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. He has already accepted the challenge of the Green Hell twice. In his first attempt in 2011, he failed at the eight-minute mark. On the second attempt in 2015 and with four electric motors that delivered 400 hp, it worked. In the end there were 7:44.8 minutes on the clock. 2 / 109th place – Porsche Taycan Turbo: The people of Zuffenhausen are almost regular guests in the Eifel. So it was only a matter of time before the record for series-built electric cars was reached. And so the Swabians sent a pre-production Taycan Turbo to the Nordschleife in 2019. 3 / 10 8th place – Tesla Model S Plaid: When it comes to electric cars, Tesla is not far away. And so the Americans also wanted the lap record on the Nordschleife. 7 / 10 4th place – Porsche Taycan Turbo GT: And every day the marmot or in this case Zuffenhausen greets us. In January 2024, the VW subsidiary once again sent a pre-production version of the electric sports car to the Nordschleife to set the Tesla record. And it succeeded impressively. With 7:07.5 minutes they only stayed just over seven minutes. The Taycan missed third place by just 2.3 seconds. 8 / 103rd place – Rimac Nevera: With a time of 7:05.2, the hypercar is extremely thin, the fastest production electric car on the Nordschleife. The 1,088 hp certainly helped in the record run at the end of 2023 to leave Porsche, Tesla and Co. behind. The Nevera can sprint from zero to 100 in 1.7 seconds. 9 / 102nd place - NIO EP9: Even though the sports car was sold between 2016 and 2019 for around 1.55 million euros, it is not a production vehicle. Only ten examples were built. On the Nordschleife in 2017, the 1,360 hp monster was able to show what it was capable of. And that's a lot: it was the first electric car to conquer the Green Hell in under seven minutes. 10 / 10 1st place - VW ID.R: Even before Volkswagen went fully electric, Wolfsburg was experimenting with the alternative drive. The result was the ID.R. With 680 hp and less than 1,100 kg weight, the study was an obvious candidate for the electric record in the Eifel. In 2019 the time had come and the Green Hell was no opponent for the ID.R. The electric racer only needed 6:05.3 minutes to complete the Nordschleife. This makes it by far the fastest electric car on the cult route. The Nürburgring Nordschleife is one of the toughest race tracks in the world. In addition to the legendary 24-hour race, the manufacturers are also chasing records here. When it comes to series electric cars, Porsche and Tesla are in a duel. The manufacturers keep chasing the record. In 2023, Tesla set a new record with the Model S. At the beginning of 2024, Porsche pulverized this with a pre-production version of the Taycan. However, it wasn't enough for either manufacturer to set the fastest lap of all electric cars. Volkswagen has been doing this for years with the ID.R Concept.
