A 32-year-old man admitted to having slit the throat of a neighbor whom he blamed for noise pollution, during the night from Wednesday to Thursday in Mandeure (Doubs), said the Montbéliard prosecutor.
“According to the first elements of the investigation, this is a recurring neighborhood dispute which ended tragically,” notes prosecutor Paul-Édouard Lallois. “Not only does he admit to having killed himself, but he seems practically relieved to have killed his neighbor,” he emphasizes.
The magistrate announced that at the end of the suspect's custody on Friday, the Montbéliard public prosecutor's office will open a judicial investigation into the charge of assassination, retaining premeditation, and will request the placement in pre-trial detention of the thirty-year-old.
“He seems almost relieved”
Wednesday around 11 p.m., the gendarmes discovered the victim, a 54-year-old man, lying in a pool of blood on the floor of his apartment in Mandeure. He had “a significant wound in his throat, he bled to death,” according to the magistrate.
A resident of the building, who had raised the alarm, sent a precise description of the alleged perpetrator, living on the upper floor, who had fled. The soldiers arrested him immediately.

“His clothes were soaked in blood and he immediately admitted that he had just
slit his neighbor’s throat
,” notes Paul-Édouard Lallois. “He had several knives on him, including a kitchen knife blade, stained with blood, which was the murder weapon.”
“Not only does he admit to having killed himself, but he seems practically relieved to have killed his neighbor,” he emphasizes.
An altercation had already taken place
The thirty-year-old, with no criminal record and who did not work, lived with his mother, whom he took care of. He explained to investigators that noise pollution started when his neighbor downstairs arrived, in the summer of 2023. He notably criticized this person under guardianship for “playing music very loudly” and “receiving people not frequentable.”
A first altercation took place between the two men: the occupant of the first floor had punched the occupant of the ground floor, who had filed a complaint.
On Wednesday, the first had just received his summons to be heard at the gendarmerie on these facts. This summons had “annoyed” him and after helping his mother to bed in the evening, he went to his neighbor’s apartment “with the desire to kill him”, specifies the prosecutor.
