Title holders, Pep Guardiola's men spent a quiet week in order to calmly prepare for one of the highlights of their season. Winners this weekend against Luton (5-1), they move forward with a lot of certainty, ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal by two points in the Premier League.
The Madrilenians also had an excellent domestic season. A little closer to the La Liga title thanks to Aurélien Tchouaméni's goal against Mallorca (1-0), Carlo Ancelotti's gang can count on its combativeness at European level.
During the first leg against City, the Spaniards came back to the score twice, notably with the last goal of Federico Valverde (79th), which responded to the achievement of Josko Gvardiol, less than ten minutes earlier (71st). It remains to be seen whether the Merengues will be able to resist the Mancunian assaults. Last season, the first leg of the semi-finals saw the two clubs neutralize each other (1-1) before City clearly took the upper hand on the return home (4-1).
