Bologna Scottish midfielder Lewis Ferguson seriously injured his right knee and will undergo surgery, his club announced on Monday, which should deprive him of Euro 2024 (June 14-July 14).
“The examinations carried out after his exit due to an injury to his right knee showed that he was suffering from a cruciate ligament injury
,” Bologna said in a press release.
“He will be operated on and at the end of this surgery, the duration of his absence will be defined
,” added the club, currently 4th in the Italian Championship, about its captain. The 24-year-old had to leave his teammates in the 62nd minute of the match against Monza (0-0) after a clash with an opponent on Saturday as part of the 32nd day of Serie A.
He scored six goals in the jersey of Bologna, his club since 2022 and surprise team of the season in Italy, on course to compete in the Champions League for the first time in its history. Ferguson has been capped twelve times for the Scotland team and played in three of the Euro 2024 qualifying matches. Scotland will face Germany, Hungary and Switzerland in Group A of Euro-2024.
