Munich – After and before FC Arsenal, FC Bayern had the Bundesliga game against 1. FC Köln in the Allianz Arena on Saturday.
Without seven supposed regular players but with Thomas Müller in the starting line-up, coach Thomas Tuchel's team welcomed the billy goats, who are currently up to their necks in a relegation battle. However, we didn't see much of it at first, as Cologne were the more dangerous team.
FC Bayern starts weakly against 1. FC Köln
Sven Ulreich had to make a desperate save in the 20th minute when he parried a header from close range. There was little to see from Bayern until then, only Mathys Tel checked Cologne keeper Schwäbe once. That was almost the only chance the current champion had in the first half hour. Afterwards, the Munich team dominated the action.
Raphaël Guerreiro failed to score against Schwäbe in the 31st minute and lost the lead. Harry Kane briefly hit the inside post before the Englishman narrowly missed the ball in the penalty area a few minutes later (38'), only to be denied by the Cologne keeper with a header.
Even before the break, the next Bayern star in the form of Tel Aluminum had bad luck and so the score went into the break 0-0.
First the Coman shock, then the Guerreiro hit
The next injury shock came in the second round. Kingsley Coman was injured without any influence from the opponent and was only able to leave the pitch with the support of his supervisors.
However, there was good news in the 65th minute: Guerreiro scored a fantastic long-range shot to give FC Bayern the deserved lead. Afterwards, Bayern didn't do more than necessary
Sven Ulreich
Surprisingly, the injured newcomer was allowed to play. Completed his task confidently and made several strong saves. As always, solid support – and at the very end they held on to a three-pointer for the record champions.

Initiated numerous moves from the right side and repeatedly chipped the ball dangerously into the center. Was involved offensively in almost every attack, but had coordination problems with Coman and Müller when moving backwards, which meant there was room for Cologne's switching game.

Introduced FC Köln's first chance with some uncertainty. But then he showed himself to be highly concentrated. De Ligt repeatedly moved up in possession of the ball and used a tackle to win back the balls that the people in front of him had lost.

Is used as a central defender duo in conjunction with de Ligt and showed against Cologne why: he organized the defense as the last man and structured the build-up game with his long diagonal balls. Blocked the possible equalizer shortly before the end.

Because he is most likely to be trusted to represent the suspended Davies against Arsenal while defending the quick Saka, Mazraoui was allowed to play on the left side of defense against Cologne. Had little problems in the duel with FC striker Alidou - but he also has less speed. Little input to the front.

To see how much Pavlovic is valued by Tuchel, one look at Bayern's formation was enough: the 19-year-old acted as the only six in front of the defense, picked up balls from the build-up game and distributed them calmly and patiently. Always playful and strong body language.

Raphael Guerreiro
Interpreted his role in the three-man midfield with Pavlovic and Müller as the eighth, who repeatedly pushes into the penalty area. Had the chance to take the lead in the 29th minute, free in front of the goal, but was denied by the FC keeper. He did better in the second half: After a short corner, Guerreiro shot the ball beautifully into the far corner - and delivered an emphatic letter of recommendation for a starting role on Wednesday.

Kingsley Coman
One can only feel sorry for the winger. Against Arsenal, Coman celebrated his comeback after a week-long injury break - and just four days later he had to go back injured. Immediately fell to the ground after a challenge in the penalty area and had to be supported when leaving. His first attack was on his right thigh, where Coman had already been injured several times this season alone.

Thomas Müller
Was allowed to play in his parade position - which doesn't fit into any formation scheme: Müller was active offensively in all areas, first initiating numerous attacks in the middle and later on the right side. It was too imprecise in the crucial moments for a long time, but in the end it was put to rest.

He was highly motivated from the start and had Bayern's first chance with a beautiful shot. Shortly before halftime, the outside post got in his way when Tel fired his shot from Müller's template a little too far to the right. Remained an asset, but one that should have been rewarded with a scorer.

He missed the big chance to make it 1-0 in the 34th minute and only hit the inside post. A few minutes later, FC keeper Schwäbe prevented his 33rd goal of the season - which Kane would not be able to score again as the game progressed. Showed an unremarkable performance.
