Ski star Giuliano Razzoli puts his skis in the corner. Because a new adventure awaits him. A few days after his career ended, he became a father.

Munich – Ski star Giuliano Razzoli threw himself down the World Cup slopes for almost two decades, but from now on it should only be about the family. Only a short time after officially ending his career, there was good news for the 39-year-old Italian and his wife Elisa: their son Emanuele saw the light of day for the first time last Monday morning (March 25th).

Ski star Razzoli originally wanted to end his career at the World Cup in Kranjska Gora

Razzoli actually wanted to end his career at the World Cup in Kranjska Gora, but the weather, of all things, thwarted the 2010 Olympic champion's plans. Persistent rain made the piste in northwest Slovenia impassable.

Since no alternative location could be found, Razzoli's career did not end on the big World Cup stage, but in a quiet little room.

Giuliano Razzoli

Born:

December 18, 1984 in Castelnovo ne' Monti (Italy)

Discipline:

Alpine skiing

Achievements (selection)

1 x Olympic gold, 2 x World Cup victories

Razzoli's son Emanuele was born Monday morning

The new dad may have even been happy with that. Because with offspring Emanuele, who, according to Italy's winter sports association (FISI), was born on Monday at 9:55 a.m., Casa Razzoli will rarely be a quiet little place in the future.

Around Christmas time, Giuliano and his wife Elisa proudly announced the good news that they would soon be expecting offspring. The first rumors then began circulating that the slalom star could end his career at the end of the season after around 18 years in the ski circus.

Razzoli looks back on Olympic victory and two World Cup successes

Razzoli celebrated his greatest successes with the 2010 Olympic Slalom victory in Vancouver and the two World Cup victories in Zagreb (also 2010) and Lenzerheide (2011). After a total of 156 World Cup races, it's now over for the 39-year-old. The birth of Emanuele shouldn't be boring anyway.

In addition, Razzoli will have significantly more time in the future to devote to his family's business, which produces balsamic vinegar near Tuscany. Last year, a slalom star also ended his career and was happy about having a baby.
