There is certainty: 2014 world champion will miss the European Championships in Germany
In preparation for the European Championship, national coach Julian Nagelsmann's team is playing two more test games: on June 3rd, the DFB team will face Ukraine in Nuremberg, and four days later they will play Greece in Mönchengladbach.
Nagelsmann will announce his European Championship squad in advance, and surprises cannot be ruled out. It is already clear that Matthias Ginter, a 2014 world champion, will miss the tournament. At the age of 20, the defender was the youngest player in the DFB squad, but was not used.
Freiburg defender Matthias Ginter is out injured until the end of the season
Ginter, who has played 51 national games so far, will undergo surgery due to persistent Achilles tendon irritation, his club SC Freiburg announced. “Unfortunately the season will be over for him. We regret this very much - also with regard to the European Championships, where he of course still had hope,” explains his coach Christian Streich to the German Press Agency.

However, since Nagelsmann became national coach, he has not yet nominated Ginter. “Hopefully he can start the new season well,” said Streich, who is known to be leaving SC Freiburg at the end of the season. (mab)
