The final of the Supercup was scheduled to take place in Türkiye on Sunday evening. However, there wasn't much football to see for the fans who arrived.
Sanliurfa – The final of the Turkish Super Cup between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe was actually supposed to get the fans in the stands out of their seats. The game did that for a minute after Galatasaray quickly took the lead. What happened next resembled a farce and is another scandal for Turkish football.
Galatasaray leads early – Fenerbahçe leaves the field
The final of the Turkish Super Cup featured an Istanbul derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe. The meetings between the two top Turkish clubs have always been an extremely prestigious duel, but on Sunday evening it became the next scandal in Turkish football when the game was abandoned after just over a minute.
Fenerbahçe sent their own U19 to the Supercup as the professional team was preparing for the quarter-finals in the Conference League against Olympiacos Piraeus. Mauro Icardi gave Galatasaray the lead after just one minute, after which the Fenerbahçe team left the pitch and the game was abandoned. The opponent's departure was commented on by goal scorer Icardi with a mocking applause.

Fenerbahçe's vice president warns against traveling to the Supercup
It was already clear before the game that the first team would not be going to the Supercup in Sanliurfa. “Our first team will not go to Sanliurfa and the game will not last 90 minutes,” said Fenerbahçe vice-president Erol Bilecik in advance, advising fans against the trip. There is a dispute between the Turkish association and the club that threatens to escalate further and further.
Fenerbahçe was dissatisfied with the scheduling of the Supercup, which was actually supposed to take place in Saudi Arabia at the end of December. However, the desert state banned fans from commemorating founding father Mustafa Kemal Atatürk during the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic. The game was then canceled and postponed. In addition, there was no foreign referee, as requested by Fenerbahçe. But the rifts between the Turkish association and the 19-time champions are deeper.

This season the Süper Lig is marked by scandals. In December, a referee was attacked by Ankaragücü's club president Faruk Koca, after which play was temporarily suspended. At the beginning of March, Trabzonspor fans attacked Fenerbahçe players. There were also severe bans and fines for the players who defended themselves during the attacks.
In the meantime, Fenerbahçe even considered leaving the Süper Lig because they were extremely unhappy with the incidents and the punishments. However, the members decided against it at an extraordinary general meeting. Meanwhile, the title will probably go to the local rival at the green table. After the cancellation, he held an eleven-on-eleven training game in order to offer the spectators something else.
