FC Bayern has to flip the switch in the Champions League. Thomas Müller proves how much the Munich people's self-image has suffered.
Munich – Out of the dreary everyday life of the Bundesliga and into the premier class. Something like that has been FC Bayern's route since the embarrassing defeat in Heidenheim three days before the Champions League smash against Arsenal.

Shortly after the game, Thomas Müller in particular tried to focus on the premier class. “I can't turn the result around now anyway and it won't do us any good if we pick on each other. The resentment in me is almost smiling again towards Tuesday. Today, thanks to my many years of experience, my thoughts are almost back in battle mode towards Tuesday,” said the 34-year-old in the catacombs on the Swabian Alb.
The quarter-finals against the Gunners will be anything but a sure-fire success for Munich. Gone are the days when the German record champions eliminated the English in passing. In 2013, 2014 and 2017, Bayern didn't have any major problems with the Gunners. Especially in the last meeting between the two teams, the Munich team impressed with two clear 5-1 victories.

FC Bayern's self-confidence has been shattered
Since then a lot has happened. Arsenal are now leading the Premier League table, while FCB looks set to miss the German championship for the first time since 2012. The Munich team's once great self-confidence has been shattered. Thomas Müller also knows that.
“To be honest, two days before the game against Arsenal it is a difficult moment for us. After two defeats in the Bundesliga, our self-confidence is quite weakened,” wrote the Bayern native on Instagram on Sunday. Before the defeat in Heidenheim, Munich had already lost at home to Borussia Dortmund – the first time in the Bundesliga in almost ten years.

Müller's next sentence proves how much self-image has suffered in recent weeks: "We should use this situation as an opportunity to surprise on the big stage against the Gunners."
