After the 2-3 defeat against Heidenheim, Thomas Tuchel is criticized. Thomas Strunz is now bringing a new interim coach into discussion.
Heidenheim – On Saturday shortly after the final whistle of the game at 1. FC Heidenheim, FC Bayern found themselves at a new negative peak. Strunz on Tuchel successor: Matthäus a candidate?
Strunz would immediately think of several successors for Tuchel. “Hansi Flick is free, Niko Kovac has won the championship twice. What about Lothar Matthäus?” were his suggestions for an interim coach. The 55-year-old himself experienced a similar situation in 1996. Shortly before the end of the season, Otto Rehhagel was fired from FC Bayern and Franz Beckenbauer won the UEFA Cup as interim coach.
Strunz also explained that things were no longer right within the team. “It speaks of signs of dissolution within the team. There seems to be no hierarchy anymore. “Some players have been shaved by Thomas Tuchel in the past,” he said, naming Joshua Kimmich, who now plays in the right-back position, as an example.

But Strunz not only has ideas for a short-term solution, but also thinks long-term. His dream coach for the coming season is Roger Schmidt, who won the Portuguese championship with Benfica Lisbon last year and reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
“You need an experienced coach who has worked with big players, knows the Champions League and speaks the language. I believe that language is an important issue in the period of change. If I put everything together, then I'm left with Roger Schmidt,” said Strunz, explaining why Schmidt would be the ideal candidate for FC Bayern.
