Bayer Leverkusen can be crowned German champions 2023/2024 as early as next matchday 29. Here you can find out how the Werkself secured the title.
Leverkusen – Will the Bundesliga have a champion who is not called FC Bayern Munich for the first time since the 2011/2012 season on the next match day? Thanks to Bayern's 3-2 defeat in Heidenheim, Bayer Leverkusen can secure the trophy on the next matchday and end the eternal "Vizekusen" curse.

With six games remaining and 16 points ahead of Bayern and Stuttgart, the Werkself have their fate completely in their own hands, but could also benefit from further mistakes by the competition. The following three scenarios will lead to the first championship title in Leverkusen's club history this weekend.

Leverkusen becomes champions on matchday 29: home win against Werder Bremen
The calculation is very simple:
If Leverkusen wins
against Werder Bremen
on Sunday evening (April 14th, 5.30 p.m.) in front of their home crowd ,
the Werkself can
no longer take the title away.
This would mean that coach Xabi Alonso's team would defend its
lead of 16 points
and could
no longer be caught by the competition in the remaining five games
.
So Leverkusen will lose champions: Bayern and Stuttgart on matchday 29
Whether Leverkusen even needs a win against Bremen will be decided the day before in the
games between FC Bayern and VfB Stuttgart.
Should both
Bayern
lose
against Cologne (Saturday, April 13th, 3:30 p.m.) and
Stuttgart against Frankfurt
(Saturday, April 13th, 6:30 p.m.)
, Bayer would be crowned
champions from their sofa
. Even a defeat against Bremen would then be irrelevant.

Leverkusen becomes champions on matchday 29: draw against Bremen – Bayern and Stuttgart do not win
If
Bayern and Stuttgart draw in their home games,
Leverkusen
would also need at least one point against Bremen
to clinch the championship.
Even if they don't win the championship on the next matchday, the Werkself would still have several more chances to win the title in the remaining five games. It is virtually impossible to squander the 16-point lead at this point in the season.
Nevertheless, Alonso warns: “The situation is great, but we don’t want to celebrate yet. We'll wait a bit. Maybe we can celebrate something next Sunday. Nothing is over,” said the Spaniard after Bayer’s win against Union Berlin. If that happens on Sunday, the championship would be decided as early as not since 2018 and Alonso's team would collect the first of three possible titles.
In the DFB Cup, the Werkself are the clear favorites in the final against Kaiserslautern, and in the Europa League they are one of the top candidates for the title - so even a historic treble is still possible.
