Eren Dinkci, who currently plays for Bundesliga club Heidenheim, apparently sees his future with the DFB and not with the Turkish national team.

Heidenheim – In the next few weeks, national coach Julian Nagelsmann has to complete his list of national players for the home European Championship. With Heidenheim's Eren Dinkci, there is also a kicker on the list who could also wear the Turkey jersey. The 22-year-old apparently prefers the DFB jersey. This is what the

Dinkci confirmed contact with one of the associations weeks ago

In mid-March, the offensive player, who is on loan to Heidenheim from Werder Bremen and will be moving to Freiburg in the summer, only made a vague statement about the choice of his future national team: “I can only say that an association has already contacted me.” The further details the player kept to himself at the time: “I won’t reveal which one.”

Eren Dinkci was born in Bremen but is also eligible to play for the Turkish national team. In 2020, the tall winger played once for Turkey's U19s. In the same year he made his debut for a German junior national team. The then 18-year-old played three games with the U20.

Is Dinkci still jumping on the European Championship bandwagon?

Regardless of Dinkci's decision and the DFB's alleged contact, the Bundesliga professional's participation in the 2024 European Championship is uncertain. In the recent test matches, other players were given preference. Hoffenheim's Maxi Beier, for example, has a similar player profile to Dinkci and was in the squad. The two youngsters are competitors for one of the coveted European Championship places.

After Nuremberg's Can Uzun recently decided against the German national team and in favor of the Turkish national team, a commitment from Dinkci would be particularly important for the DFB. The former youth player of FC Bayern Munich and native of Regensburg, Kenan Yildiz, now also plays in the Turkey jersey.
