The difficult conversation between Shino Zoertz and Yossi Benyon will not star in the hall of fame of either of them, but more than anything it reveals the real problem: the Israeli national soccer team is a professional matter

The truth is that there was already another text here, which was written from the heart and did the job (at least in the humble opinion of the HM), but then Wednesday morning came, and the difficult conversation that was held between Shino Zoertz, the chairman of the football association, and Yossi Benyon, the professional manager of his contract Will not be extended - devoured the cards. It is unlikely that there is a person who likes Israeli football and has not read the things, and in general it can be said, without going into too many dramatic descriptions, that this is a conversation that does not flatter the two involved in it.

But if you can put the spot on one moment of the conversation - one and nothing else, it is this: according to what was leaked, Banyon asked Zoertz: "If Zahavi had scored the penalty, and it would have ended in a loss - but not like this?", and Zoertz answered him "So of course you would have stayed", then adds "I thought about it and decided that I don't want a professional manager, just a coach. This is the loss, your conduct, the lineup, the substitutions." Then Zwartz asked, according to the leaks: "Isn't Weissman better than Tai Bribo?", and Benion replied: "Tai is better, Shawn Weissman isn't a man either... Would you agree that one of your employees would curse at you?"

wait wait wait. what? The chairman of the association decides who will be the coach of the team and what the roles will be in the team? The chairman of the association decides who is good and who is not? Isn't there a professional committee that should sit down, grind borax and drink Paz orange juice in 2 liter bottles and raise "for" and "against"? And let's say that only the chairman of the association determines who coaches and what the structure of the professional team in the national team is, how does he decide, based on a penalty that went in or not?

Beyond the fact that, on the face of it, Zoertz's decision appears to be correct - the team of Hazan and Benion did not lift the burden of enjoyment, and certainly that did not provide proper results. But did any of them get the opportunity to appear before the professional committee and summarize the term? To explain why he acted as he did, where he was right, where he was wrong, and what can be improved in his estimation? It seems that only Banyon took such an opportunity for himself - and went directly to confront Zoertz.

And all of this no longer matters, because the chairman of the association and perhaps also the professional committee - again, according to the leaks as of the time these lines went to press - have already chosen the replacement: Barak Becher. And in this regard, we can ask: was there a discussion on the subject? Have alternatives come up? Were there other opinions? Is it fun? thank you

On what basis does he decide? Shino Zoertz/Shlomi Gabai

Let's talk for a moment about the professional committee. According to the association's website, these are the 12 members of the committee: Chairman Zoertz, former national team coach Elisha Levy, Moshe Demayo, Itzik Ovadia, Shai Aharon, Kafir Adri, Einav Hazanvald, Alona Barkat, Muhammad Mahagina, Eli Derix, Moran Meiri and Sharon Nissanov. So what did we have here? A national team coach with an impressive record in the league - yes. A decorated former footballer with 27 appearances in the national team (Derix) - yes. Three more footballers with a certain past in the first division - yes. One can ask what the training of all three of them, who have not spent a minute in the national team , to determine who will be the next coach, but let's leave it at that - at least they played professional football. Itzik Ovadia also played football, but not at the levels of the trio mentioned before.

Something important to say: the six names who are not footballers - Zoaretz, Demayo, Barkat, Mahagina, Meiri and Nisanov - have made a difference in their field. These are people who have recorded business success and extensive social activity and have a very respectable and impressive record, and Ovadia and Derricks also present such a fine record.

But in the end, these are businessmen. And what about the businessmen and the coaching of the national team? That is, after 76 years of Israeli sports and football Israeli and the Israeli Football Association - we definitely know the answer to that, but hey, haven't you noticed that it doesn't work?

Here is a not far-fetched suggestion, which is not difficult to implement: reduce the number of businessmen, for starters. Chairman Zwartz, two more representatives of the teams - an excellent idea. They should be on the committee. Elisha and Derricks? There is no question at all, a very worthy choice. Seven more are missing to complete a professional committee that will actually come from football? No problem. Take one great former player From any team - but not one that is involved in football or the football media (sorry, Nemani. Sorry, Ohana. Sorry, Berkovic) - and bring him in. Let these people, who really lived the industry from childhood and still live it today, influence the future of all of us.

This is not a lack of respect, on the contrary - it is a national mission that will only increase the public's trust in the association and the national team.
