FC Bayern Munich's search for a coach continues. Xabi Alonso has canceled – Ralf Rangnick is considered an alternative. But the top favorite should be an Italian.
Munich – FC Bayern Munich receives the next knockout from Leverkusen: In terms of sport, the championship is virtually fixed, the record champions are ten points behind and actually have no chance of turning things around. And when it comes to personnel, the same applies: Bayer before Bavaria! Because Xabi Alonso announced on Good Friday that he would continue to be coach of the Werkself next season.
Xabi Alonso turns down FC Bayern Munich and stays in Leverkusen
The Basque was seen by the Munich team as the ideal solution for the sacked Thomas Tuchel, who will only sit in the Bavarian coaching bench until the end of the season. Bayern patron Uli Hoeneß had already predicted that poaching would be virtually impossible. Now there is certainty - and the FCB bosses around sports director Max Eberl have to look elsewhere.
There are candidates. And they have already been mentioned. The most prominent name that has been mentioned these days is certainly that of Ralf Rangnick. The former Leipzig manager is currently the coach of the Austrian national team and has a contract there until June 2026. Will he fulfill this?

Rangnick apparently almost ended up on Säbener Strasse in 2019. But back then they decided on Niko Kovac. It shouldn't last long. Not with him, not with Hansi Flick (even if it practically rained titles here), not with Julian Nagelsmann and not with Thomas Tuchel.
So who will it be? There are many names floating around Munich. If you believe the

, then Roberto De Zerbi apparently has the best chances. He should “continue to be the top alternative at Bayern”. The bosses are said to have already made contact. But will the Italian actually prevail?

Max Eberl is looking for Bayern coach: “Unusual ideas also appear on the list”
Shortly before the classic between Bayern and Dortmund (all TV information), Eberl explained on
Sky
that it was “FC Bayern’s duty” to “think everything through. Unusual ideas also appear on the list.”
He would ideally like to present the new coach in the coming weeks: “We're starting in April, it would be nice if we could get it done in April without me telling myself that this is the ultimate day.” The decision should be “like this “as quickly as possible, but also as well as possible”: “We want to make the best decision.”
Alonso was the preferred candidate at FC Bayern: Eberl has to rethink
The 50-year-old made it clear how difficult this is. "Maybe it's a coach who would be a perfect fit, but the conditions are so exorbitant that we say, okay, that might not be a good fit at all." It's "not a quick fix where we say: 'Big name is possible, it's free.' 'We'll get him!'"
The fact is: Eberl could have saved himself a few conversations with an “Si” from Xabi Alonso. But that doesn't happen - and that's why the really hot phase of the search for a coach begins at Easter.
