Felix Neureuther has been campaigning for more sustainability and climate protection in skiing for years. Now he is making an emotional climate appeal to the ski association.
Saalbach-Hinterglemm - “Protect the climate, save winter” engraved with chainsaws on a 3 x 2.5 meter ice sculpture: In addition to this impressive installation, Felix Neureuther once again called for more commitment in the fight against on the sidelines of the Alpine World Cup final in Saalbach-Hinterglemm climate change – and found clear words.
“When I see the pictures of white slopes on gray-brown mountains, my heart bleeds,” said Neureuther, according to the

Neureuther makes a climate appeal to the ski association
“I have spent most of my life on skis so far - it is all the more difficult for me to see how the sport's livelihood is melting away,” said the former top athlete and added: “The many canceled races of the current season make it clear: things have to happen here Urgently change something!” In fact, 19 races have already had to be canceled this season due to weather conditions – often because of high temperatures and snow problems.
In order to work even harder for his goals, Neureuther now even works for the Austrian association. The ÖSV recently founded the task force “Future:Focus:Ski/Snowboard Sport” on the topic of climate change, in which Neureuther is one of the most prominent faces and is part of the steering group.

The task force, including Neureuther, representatives of the ÖSV and Greenpeace, now met in Saalbach-Hinterglemm to discuss the future of skiing and to raise awareness for the topic. “The international ski association must fulfill its responsibility and take quick measures, such as adjusting the racing calendar and organizing the events sustainably,” was the clear appeal from Greenpeace spokeswoman Ursula Bittner.

It is not the first time that Neureuther has publicly raised his voice for changes in the ski circus towards more sustainability. Neureuther is particularly opposed to the idea of holding the Winter Olympics in regions without a winter climate.
For example, he is also calling for a boycott of athletes if the Asian Winter Games are held in the desert state of Saudi Arabia.
