Thomas Müller has become an integral part of FC Bayern.

Max Eberl now reveals that he was once interested in the younger version of the FCB veteran.

Munich – Max Eberl seems to have been a big fan of Thomas Müller for a long time.

Why?

FC Bayern's new sports director wanted to bring today's club veteran to Borussia Mönchengladbach in his younger years.

About Thomas Müller: Max Eberl called Hermann Gerland

“I actually spoke to Hermann Gerland on the phone about Thomas Müller,” says Eberl in the

Bild

podcast

Bayern Insider

.

“At the beginning of his career, before he took off.” However, he does not reveal the exact time of this conversation and the amazing transfer anecdote associated with it.

Eberl was employed as sports director in Gladbach from 2008 to 2022.

From 2001 to 2009, Gerland worked as coach of the FCB second team.

The Müller conversation with Eberl probably also took place during this period.

However, Müller declined and, according to Eberl, “made the right decision – without me saying that Gladbach was wrong.”

Max Eberl with his first day as manager at FC Bayern

A stroke of luck for Bayern.

The flexible offensive player trained and played under Gerland at the time - from the 2009/10 season onwards, the then trainer Louis van Gaal made Müller a regular player with the professionals.

An unprecedented career then began.

On March 1st, Max Eberl had his first day at work as FC Bayern's sports director.

Born in Bogen in Lower Bavaria, he joined the German record champions at the age of six, played through all the junior teams there and made his professional debut in their red and white jersey.

As a player, Eberl spent around 15 years with FCB, plus two weeks in management.

Thomas Müller – a life for FC Bayern

Müller might smile about that, at least when looking at the raw annual figures.

The Weilheimer, about whom an England star recently gave a eulogy, only came to Säbener Strasse when he was eleven, but played for Bayern longer in his career - from then until now.

Müller has been active for FCB for around 23 years, playing over 780 games for various teams, becoming German champions twelve times and winning the Champions League twice.
