The Police of the province of Santa Fe
arrested this Saturday the Rosario Central supporter
who would have thrown the stone that injured the Peñarol soccer player
Maximiliano Olivera
after the end of the match that both teams played 16 days ago at the Gigante de Arroyito for the first date from group G of the Copa Libertadores.
The news was confirmed by the Rosario club through a statement published on its website.
“This occurred by virtue of the complaint that our institution promptly made to the corresponding Prosecutor's Office as soon as the publicly known events occurred,” noted the
Canalla
leadership
.
The arrest of the sympathizer (a man of approximately 50 years old) took place during a raid ordered by
prosecutor Fernando Dalmau
, who is in charge of the investigation of the events that occurred on April 4 in Gigante de Arroyito before, during and after the match that Central won 1-0 with a goal from Carlos Quintana.
The Auriazul fan
was identified thanks to the review of the film material
generated by the stadium's video surveillance cameras, which was made available to the Public Prosecutor's Office by the Central leadership, and the verification of his membership number, which was achieved because it had been recorded in the entrance turnstile that he had crossed.
During the operation that was carried out at the home of the arrested fan, evidentiary material of interest to the case was seized, among other things the clothing that the man was wearing at the time he threw the stone at the Giant.
These elements will be important for the imputation hearing to which the supporter will be subjected next week.
There he will be accused of having committed two crimes:
public intimidation, which carries a sentence of between two and six years in prison, and minor injuries (between one month and one year in prison).
"During this time our institution was carrying out tireless work in the production and collection of evidence with all its task teams providing elements and actively collaborating with the Prosecutor's Office in the identification of the aggressors and offenders
, "
Rosario Central said in its statement.
, in which he announced that the club's Disciplinary Court will apply sanctions if the person or persons responsible for the incidents are members.
In parallel with the criminal investigation carried out by the Public Ministry of the Santa Fe Accusation,
the South American Football Confederation opened a disciplinary file
to evaluate what happened that day at the Gigante de Arroyito and, eventually, apply sanctions.
Although before the initial whistle of the Colombian referee Wilmar Roldán
there had already been incidents between both parties
(the Peñarol fans had thrown thunder bombs towards a sector where there was a local audience and the Central fans had responded by throwing metal fences from the tray above), the most serious incident occurred after the end of the match.
When the Peñarol footballers approached the stands where their supporters were to greet them, a stone that came from one of the Gigante's stalls hit the face of Maximiliano Olivera, who suffered a cut. The footballer, with a bloody face, returned to the visiting locker room, where he fainted. He was then transferred to a sanatorium, where the wound was stitched.
