2024-04-19T15:04:06.713Z

Highlights: Maria Waffler is a master confectioner and has worked as a pastry chef in numerous renowned establishments. The ice cream laboratory and bakery were set up opposite the town hall in the former butcher's shop. “EisWaffler’ will celebrate its opening at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20th, in Hohenpeißenberg, near the city of Schächen. It is the first ice cream parlor to open in the town in almost two years and will be open until the end of the year. The parlor will be run by a team of three people, including a trained chef and an ice cream lab manager, who will help with the production of the ice cream.

The wait is over: life has finally returned to the small ice cream parlor in Schächen after almost two years. On Saturday, April 20th, “EisWaffler” will celebrate its opening at 2 p.m.

Hohenpeißenberg – “It’s simply a dream,” Mayor Thomas Dorsch cannot hide his joy as he sits at the table with Maria Waffler and talks about the new opening. Because the new operator of the ice cream parlor is a lottery pick for the community. She is a master confectioner and has worked as a pastry chef in numerous renowned establishments such as the boutique hotel Werdenfelserei in Garmisch-Partenkirchen or the Restaurant Hieronymus in Unterammergau.

After graduating from high school, her path initially went in a completely different direction by studying biology. However, after two years she gave up. “It just wasn’t what I wanted to do,” she remembers. Several positions in the catering industry followed. “That’s when I realized that I really liked it,” says the 32-year-old and adds: “That was when it was all over me.” She tried out several areas, including working in the well-known and popular Stenz ice cream parlor her hometown Regensburg and later completed her training as a pastry chef.

“But I always had in the back of my mind that I wanted to have something of my own,” she says of her desire for independence, which was always there. The request from a former colleague, Karin Berger, who works as a cook at the Pschorr butcher shop, came in handy. “I wanted to get out of the restaurant business again and missed baking cakes,” says Waffler, who currently lives in Bad Bayersoien, enthusiastically about the happy coincidence.

Her friend Markus Lechner, who is a trained chef, was on board from the very first moment. He will support his partner in the production. It takes place entirely in Hohenpeißenberg: the ice cream laboratory and bakery were set up opposite the town hall in the former butcher's shop. “Owner Annelies Kräz provided wonderful support,” thanks Mayor Dorsch. In addition, an apartment was easily found for the couple on site, which Waffler and her boyfriend can now move into. Dorsch is certain that the Hohenpeißenberg support will continue. Because he was constantly asked when there would be an ice cream parlor again.

The fact that this will offer even more than ice cream on hand is an added value for the community. Initially there are 16 types of ice cream, which will also be available in the form of different sundaes. All varieties are created in-house and contain neither colorings nor artificial flavors. “If it says strawberry on it, there are real strawberries in it,” emphasizes Waffler. This also applies to their cakes, of which four different ones are offered every day. There are also cold and warm drinks, such as coffee from the Murnauer coffee roastery.

“EisWaffler” is open Monday and Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday to Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. It will be closed on Tuesday. The focus is on entertaining outside, but guests can also sit down in the dining room. Business should not end with the summer season. A changed offer is planned in winter. “But we have to plan everything more precisely,” says Waffler.

“It's been a roller coaster ride getting here,” she admits, because running her own business brings with it completely new challenges. “I'm happy that I can now work completely in my profession again,” she says, looking forward to the many guests she will personally entertain and goes into raptures when she talks about the cold, sweet treat: “Ice cream means nice weather , leisure and friends. Ice cream is a break from everyday life. Ice cream is always possible.”

There is a nice treat on opening day: every child gets a scoop of ice cream for free.
