In the midst of internal tensions and the
refusal of Marcela Pagano to lead it, the libertarians vacated the presidency of the Freedom of Expression commission
that today was formed into Deputies. The meeting ended up being led by the Leftist deputy
Christian Castillo
, who was elected as vice president.
Javier Milei's insults to journalists were the focus of the meeting and the opposition demanded to quote them.
The presidency of Freedom of Expression is one of those that had been offered to Marcela Pagano so that she would resign from Impeachment. She did not accept because since she worked in many of the main media outlets - she even has a lawsuit open with one of them - anything that happened in that commission under her leadership could be objected to.
She was an awkward position.
The truth is that the libertarians arrived at the meeting without a defined candidate to preside over the commission and
left the name reserved
. As vice president, Unión por la Patria proposed
Christian Castillo
from the Left, who ended up leading the meeting.
Leaving some place of authority vacant until the bloc reaches a consensus name is common practice, although it is rare in many commissions and in the case of a presidency.
La Libertad Avanza also
left in reserve the secretariats that correspond to it in Science and Technology, Tourism, Transportation, Industry, Petitions and Regulations, Sports and Labor Legislation.
"We have to sit down and see everything together so that it is equal. There are legislators who are on many commissions, others on a few," responded from LLA.
Crosses for Javier Milei's insults to journalists
During the debate in Freedom of Expression the opposition targeted Milei's most recent insults to journalists. Leandro Santoro of Unión por la Patria pointed out that in 130 days of government there were "15 journalists whose rights were curtailed."
"The most important driver in the country, Mirtha Legrand, said that she is afraid to give her opinion,"
he said.
"We have to keep in mind that the president of the republic is not on the same level as the rest of the citizens and that involves journalists.
Journalists have no privileges
," said radical
Karina Banfi
, who added: "I would like We can all learn to live together by understanding the operation of freedom of expression, that we have to make a call to the Chamber of Deputies to cut off transmissions on the channel of the Chamber of Deputies, which is a channel that belongs to all the deputies, not to the presidency is something that has to draw our attention and
I believe in freedom, friends of freedom move forward
..."
Mónica Frade (Civic Coalition) recalled that the deputies had already been told
“rats, coimeros, valijeros”
and that she was not going to stop and criticize the
“president who has no frontal lobe
.” She limited herself to pointing out Martín Menem for the decisions on Diputados TV and, in addition to the journalists, asked that authorities from FOPEA and ADEPA be summoned.
The two libertarians present defended Milei. "Freedom of expression is 100%.
This does not mean that we are not responsible for our statements, that we have to go through the courts if necessary
," said Bertie Benegas Lynch.
"There is no action more forcefully respectful of the right to freedom by our president than having suspended the contracting of official advertising, an instrument that was used as a gag by previous governments," added Mercedes Llano.
