Loungers next to loungers on the beautiful beaches in Greece - there is hardly any room for a large bath towel in the soft sand. Things will look different this year. There are new rules for Greek beaches and hotels. What you need to consider as a holidaymaker in Greece – an overview.
Limit on beach loungers in Greece – 30 percent of the area covered by loungers
Beach loungers lined up next to beach loungers will no longer be available on holidays in Greece from this year onwards. This was announced by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The aim is to avoid monopolies, to make the beaches more accessible to the general public and to avoid overcrowding, informs the portal

. This would pay off for locals and tourists. According to which rules beach loungers and parasols can now be set up:
Beach |
Sun lounger/parasol |
---|---|
Generally, at least 70 percent free |
Yes, almost 30 percent of the space |
Protected area, around 85 percent free |
Yes, almost 15 percent of the space |
Ecologically valuable areas |
No |
Sun loungers and parasols are also not allowed to be closer than four meters to the water. This is intended to ensure easy access to the sea. Likewise, at least half of the beaches must remain public. This is intended to prevent companies from taking over beaches. When a company takes over a beach concession, it commits itself to the following measures:
Cleanliness on the beach section
Provision of toilets
Creation of barrier-free access to the stand for people with disabilities
Hiring a lifeguard
Violations will be punished with fines or closure of businesses,
