RER delays in Île-de-France and Oise: the compensation campaign extended by one week

2024-04-17T17:09:51.715Z

Highlights: Navigo users affected by significant delays in 2023 have one week grace period. Navigo subscribers, regular users of lines who suffered chronic delays last year, will have 7 additional days to submit their request for compensation online on the Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) website. The request registration campaign, launched on March 20, was initially scheduled to end this Wednesday at midnight. A few hours before this deadline, IDFM indicated that the deadline had been pushed back to Wednesday, April 24, still at midnight, and will last another week. The “reimbursement rights”, measured line by line, are triggered on branches whose punctuality falls below a certain quality threshold, for at least three months (not necessarily consecutively) 15 rail routes, Transilien or RER, having posted an annual punctuality of less than 85% are therefore affected this year. Regular users of these branches can obtain a reimbursement ranging from half a month to a month and a half of the cost of the monthly Navigo.

One week grace period! A few hours before this deadline, IDFM indicated that the deadline was pushed back to Wednesday April 24, still at midnight.

As every year, the regional transport organizing authority has set up a compensation system for users of train and RER lines whose quality of service was particularly degraded the previous year. The “reimbursement rights”, measured line by line, are triggered on branches whose punctuality falls below a certain quality threshold, for at least three months (not necessarily consecutive).

15 rail, Transilien or RER routes concerned

Previously set at 80%, the regularity threshold below which travelers can claim a refund has been raised to 85% by IDFM, which has “decided to increase its level of demands” vis-à-vis operators.

15 rail routes, Transilien or RER, having posted an annual punctuality of less than 85% are therefore affected this year. Regular users of these branches can obtain a reimbursement ranging from half a month to a month and a half of the cost of the monthly Navigo (at the 2023 rate), i.e. from 42.05 euros to 126.15 euros, depending on the degree of " severity” of delays.

As could be expected from the end of last year, it is users of the Aulnay-sous-Bois/Mitry-Claye branch of the RER B who are eligible for the largest reimbursement. It is in fact this axis of line B which broke all records for delays in 2023 with punctuality rates which remained below 85% for… ten months out of twelve.

The other axes most affected are Cergy-le-Haut/Maisons-Laffitte on the RER A; Robinson/Bourg-la-Reine and Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse/Parc de Sceaux on line B as well as the Étampes/Marolles branches in Hurepoix and Doudan/La Norville on line C.

250,000 requests already received

Please note, it is not enough to have taken these lines a few times to claim compensation. To be eligible, applicants must have held at least three months of subscription (Navigo or Imagine'R) and provide proof of a home or place of work served by one of the branches concerned.

Public transport users who meet these various criteria and who have not yet registered on the digital reimbursement platform have until April 24 to do so. According to IDFM, this Wednesday, only 250,000 requests had been received. 200,000 of them have already been processed and validated, for an amount of around 10 million euros reimbursed to users.
