Reconversion of the Rail Cathedrals in Saint-Denis: for or against the future hip-hop museum?

The winners of the overall rehabilitation of the 5.5 hectare site are the Eiffage Aménagement and Aire Nouvelle group. The transfer of the land will be effective in 2025, the first residents should arrive in 2028, and the opening of the museum is planned for 2029. At the end of Chemin des Petits-Cailloux, the former SNCF site, along the Gare du Nord railway line in Saint-Denis, will be transformed around its heritage nuggets : the Rail Cathedrals where the locomotives were maintained between 1874 and 1999.

Opening in 2029

Listed in 2004 as a Historic Monument, the halls, which were almost razed in 1944 to be rebuilt after the war, will become a place of reference for urban cultures. At 19 meters high, the largest will house a street art and hip-hop museum called the Aérosol Saint-Denis, supported by the Maquis-Art company and the Hip-Hop Citizens association.

The second building which spreads out in a wave of five naves will be “a living space” and activities: catering, areas for sports activities, free practice of graffiti and a program of events throughout the year.

While the project is still in its early stages, residents can give their opinion by email addressed to the Plaine Commune territory, as part of a preliminary consultation open until June 5.
