Esting

– once a farmer, always a farmer – this was undoubtedly true for Andreas Hatzl. The Estinger was a farmer with heart and soul. Someone who thought, lived and felt with nature. He worked at the Hatzlhof in Esting until the end, even though he had already handed the business over to his son 20 years ago. Today, the Hatzlhof is one of the large, well-known organic farms in the district.

When Andreas Hatzl was born in the middle of the Second World War, the world was different in every respect - including on the farm. At that time it was in a cramped location near the church in the center of the town. As early as 1987, Hatzl made the forward-looking decision to relocate the company. He built a new farm in southwest Esting.

“He has made a dream come true,” says Andreas Hatzl junior, who followed in his father’s footsteps. Today the company, which includes a potato packing plant, benefits from its convenient location near the B 471.

From 1999 onwards, father and son ran the farm together before the handover took place in 2004. The father was initially skeptical about the junior's desire to switch to organic farming. “But then he saw that it was the right path.”

When he could have put his feet up long ago, Andreas Hatzl senior was still active in the company every day. He inspected the fields, brought the employees snacks and spare parts, and delivered potatoes.

Andreas Hatzl was also right in the middle of Estinger club life. He belonged to the volunteer fire department and the shooting club, loved social events, folk festivals and especially the Oktoberfest. Just two weeks before his death, he took part in the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Association for Agricultural Education (vlf), whose board he had been a member of for years.

Andreas Hatzl's wife Marianne was at his side for 55 years and he once took her by storm with a little trick. In order to persuade his beloved to go out with him, he raved to her about a sea party that he wanted to invite her to. But the festival didn't even take place. It became a date for two – and things clicked straight away.

The two married just three months later. Two sons and two daughters crowned the marital happiness. In the meantime, seven grandchildren have been added, to whom Andreas Hatzl was an enthusiastic grandfather. He was 81 years old.
