Erding's district administrator Martin Bayerstorfer invited the agricultural representatives to Grüntegernbach. Current problems were discussed.

Grüntegernbach – District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer invited people to a spring reception for agricultural representatives at the Gottbrecht inn in Grüntegernbach. “This event is very important to me in order to bring the agricultural sector into focus. We want to make the important work of farmers as producers of good and healthy food visible to the public and promote dialogue between agriculture and consumers,” said the district administrator. This also includes addressing the current problems in agriculture and promoting understanding and support in connection with the demonstrations currently taking place.

Exchange with farmers: Erding's district administrator Bayerstorfer invites farmers to talk about current problems

The main presentation was given by Franz Bauschmid and Daniel Gschlößl from the producers' association for quality grain in the Erding district. They provided information about various cultivation and sales options, experimental projects with new products such as chia seeds and dry rice and regional collaborations such as Erdinger Weißbräu and Bernbacher. In his lecture, Thomas Schreder, Managing Director of the Bavarian Riding and Driving Association, outlined the history of horse keeping in the Erding district with reference to the coat of arms and emphasized that today two thirds of all sport horses in Bavaria are kept on farms, which provides attractive additional income for farmers and farmers means.

Peter Stadick, head of the health, veterinary and consumer protection department at the Erding district office, provided information about the current status with regard to the “red areas”, i.e. areas that have been identified as areas with increased nitrate content in the groundwater. Significant restrictions apply to agriculture there; in particular, fertilization must be reduced by 20 percent. The selection or suitability of the measuring points relevant for this purpose is still not sufficiently justified by the water management office and is not comprehensible.

District Administrator Bayerstorfer and the farmers concerned had argued repeatedly and strongly that the few existing and considered measuring points were not suitable for a plausible measurement and designation of such extensive areas because they had no agricultural connection.

The Munich Water Management Office (WWA) has now submitted applications for new measuring point drillings in the Erding district. However, these three new measuring points - mentioned by district councilor Maria Grasser in the district council - are all located in a groundwater body that is not currently designated as red and are therefore completely irrelevant to the two current red areas in the Erding district, explained Mr. Stadick. In the worst case scenario, these could even lead to another red area in the Erding district during the next new designation.

Unfortunately, he is not aware of any new nitrate measuring points planned by WWA Munich in the two red areas in the Erding district. The statement that these new measuring points led to an exclusion in the Mühldorf and Landshut districts also does not correspond to the facts in any way.

The Rosenheim Water Management Office, on the other hand, is currently drilling several boreholes for new measuring points in the currently red groundwater body Vorlandmolasse Dorfen. If the two drillings in the western area of the Mühldorf district are successful, this could result in an enormous reduction of the red area in the eastern Erding district, but only after a formal Bavaria-wide redesignation of the red areas, probably in 2026.

Against this background, the Erding district does not plan to withdraw the lawsuit filed in November 2023 together with two affected farmers, but rather - as originally planned - to pursue a popular lawsuit, which will be used to review the constitutionality of the underlying legislation. Stadick announced that another district, the Altötting district, had promised support and would take part.
