18 places in Weilheim where heaven and earth touch

2024-04-16T07:12:16.544Z

Highlights: Weilheim Christians will hold a creation prayer in a different place every day from April 18th to May 5th. The aim is to maintain the “landmarks’ – which is also the title of this series – “as places of pause, prayer and connection to creation,” explain the Protestant pastor Sabine Nagel and her Catholic colleague Engelbert Birkle. The various crosses are "an expression of the knowledge that 'heaven and earth touch', that nature is a gift and that 'everything depends on God's blessing'" The Oberland Climate Spring includes a total of around 170 events in four districts - from top-class lectures to workshops, bike tours, film and cabaret evenings to hands-on activities for children. The highlight is certainly the city festival, which takes place all day in Weilheim's city center on Saturday, May 4th - as an “Open Day for the Climate”. An extra flyer for the day can be found at www.weilheim.de.

They stand in fields and forest edges, on quiet paths and busy streets, in the middle of the city and in idyllic nature: 18 field crosses in and around Weilheim are now being viewed in a very special way for the climate spring.

Weilheim

- It is an extraordinary and, in the truest sense of the word, groundbreaking contribution to the Oberland climate spring, which begins next Thursday: The Catholic parish community and the Protestant community of Weilheim invite you to make your way to field crosses or other memorial sites in the district town and take part in a short “creation time” there. From April 18th to May 5th, during the entire climatic spring, different Weilheim Christians will hold a creation prayer in a different place every day. The times vary: we usually meet in the early evening, but sometimes in the morning or afternoon.

The “landmarks” can be found in all directions

The aim is to maintain the “landmarks” – which is also the title of this series – “as places of pause, prayer and connection to creation,” explain the Protestant pastor Sabine Nagel and her Catholic colleague Engelbert Birkle. The various crosses are "an expression of the knowledge that 'heaven and earth touch', that nature is a gift and that 'everything depends on God's blessing'." The places of prayer to which people are invited can be found in all directions: on the Gögerl, on the Ammer and in the Moos, on the Prälatenweg to Polling, in the Lichtenau and at Dietlhofer See, in the districts of Unterhausen, Deutenhausen and Marnbach. It starts on Thursday, April 18th, at 5 p.m. at a cross in the middle of the residential area - on Moosstrasse.

It's about "good thoughts and decisive actions"

The celebrations take place whatever the weather. An overview of all the “corridor signs” and the dates of the prayers can be found in a leaflet that is available in the Weilheim churches and can be downloaded from the homepage www.pfarreien-weilheim.de. Current changes are also displayed on the website. “All those who are passionate about creation” are invited to “attend the celebrations and thus shape the Weilheim living space with a network of prayers, good thoughts and of course decisive actions,” write Birkle and Nagel. By the way, “elements of creation” will also be included in the Sunday services of the Catholic parishes and the Protestant community on April 21st.

Big climate city festival on May 4th in Weilheim

There are numerous other offers in Weilheim for the Oberland Climate Spring, which is taking place for the fourth time this year and includes a total of around 170 events in four districts - from top-class lectures to workshops, bike tours, film and cabaret evenings to hands-on activities for children (see below) . The highlight is certainly the city festival, which takes place all day in Weilheim's city center on Saturday, May 4th - as an “Open Day for the Climate”. An extensive Agenda 21 participation and lecture program in and around the city theater lets you learn, for example, how a balcony power plant works, how big your own CO2 footprint is or what local superfoods taste like. Weilheim companies also open their doors as part of a competition and offer attractive prizes for participants.
