For several days, Russia has been carrying out massive attacks on Ukraine, particularly targeting energy installations. Russian drones and missiles targeted power plants in east-central Ukraine overnight from Thursday to Friday, the Ukrainian Energy Minister announced.
Three Ukrainian thermal power plants suffered damage after firing from Russian drone missiles, Ukrainian energy supplier DTEK confirmed. “The occupiers attacked three DTEK thermal power plants. The equipment was seriously damaged. After the attack, engineers quickly began to deal with the consequences,” DTEK said.
An air alert was issued overnight throughout Ukraine. Ukraine says it has shot down 84 of 99 Russian missiles and drones launched. This “massive attack” targeted targets, in particular energy production sites in the regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Cherkasy, said Energy Minister German Galushchenko. According to the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, a man was injured at an electrical installation.
In Kamianske, an agricultural cooperative was hit and five people were injured including a 5-year-old child and two women aged 19 and 47 who did not require hospitalization but two men aged 36 and 47 are in a serious condition.
Poland monitors airspace
The Polish armed forces said their country's military planes took off to monitor Polish airspace due to Russian missiles in western Ukraine. “Last night, intense long-range aerial activity by the Russian Federation was observed, linked to missile strikes against targets on Ukrainian territory,” the Polish army command said in a statement.
“All necessary procedures for the protection of Polish airspace have been taken,” and Polish forces “are continuously monitoring the situation,” the statement added. Warsaw said on Sunday that a Russian cruise missile fired towards towns in western Ukraine had penetrated Polish airspace for 39 seconds.
