What would you do if you were dating a man, fell in love with him and after six months of dating you find out that he is.. your cousin? This is exactly what happened to 21-year-old Makana Hagemeier, who, despite the exciting discovery, decided to marry 25-year-old Eli Hagemeier.
In a viral video that scorched the web, Makana revealed her confession as she smiles broadly, hugs and kisses Ellie. The video went up with the caption: "We found out we were cousins six months after our romantic relationship began, but we still got married."
The video, which has garnered millions of views, was the second Makana uploaded that day regarding her relationship with Ellie and followers were shocked. Almost all the responses were against this move, with one of the respondents writing to them: "I also love my cousin, but from here until marrying him? There are boundaries that cannot be crossed."

Followers expressed concern for the fate of this couple, mainly due to the fact that first cousins are highly likely to produce children with various birth defects. They are right. According to research, children born to blood-related parents are at double the risk of congenital problems such as heart and lung defects, cleft lip and palate, and even extra fingers.
They are also twice as likely to receive antipsychotic medication in the future, for mental illnesses such as schizophrenia.

Makana uploaded another video in which she revealed more details about her family connection to Eli.
In a video she uploaded after a month of silence, she recorded herself sitting in a car and said: "Hey Tiktok. It's been a while. Well, my husband and I are distantly related, we're not first cousins. Please calm down."
Unsurprisingly, followers wanted to know How far is far, though she has yet to share more details about their family connection.
