The government of Javier Milei began to
accelerate layoffs during the long holiday and aims to reach 15,000 dismissals
by the end of the month, as his spokesperson Manuel Adorni had announced.
Last Tuesday, at the IEFA Latam Forum, the President had announced that 70,000 public employee contracts would fall.
However, Adorni later came out to clarify: “There was a lot of confusion regarding the numbers, so it's good to clarify it. The universe of contracts analyzed is just over 70,000; Of those, there are 15,000 that will be discharged by March 31.
The rest will be renewed for another six months
and then progress will continue,” he specified.
But that figure, he clarified, corresponds to the centralized public administration,
it does not include PAMI and public companies.
The truth is that in the last few hours the notifications began to reach different agencies.
The layoff monitor that the Association of State Workers (ATE), which updates based on the information they receive from delegates throughout the country,
until this Friday recorded more than 8,200 layoffs
between those confirmed and those that are "in process." of" being fired. That is, it adds the cases of workers who have already been notified through formal means and those who appear on lists, or know that their area will be closed, but did not receive the formal notice.
The thing is that, for example, in the case of the national government and the ministries, with respect to temporary plant contracts,
a notification via email
or other notice is enough. On the other hand, the bulk of decentralized organizations are bound by the employment contract law and
must send dismissal telegrams.
The highest figure - informal until now -
is recorded in ANSES with more than 1,200 confirmed dismissals
. In the Ministry of
Human Capital
, led by Sandra Pettovello, the number of dismissals would also
exceed the barrier of one thousand.
ATE confirmed that next Wednesday it will hold a day of national struggle, with strikes and assemblies in different provinces, and that they will take buildings by force.
“The level of attack on the rights of all state workers is very serious and unprecedented.
The Government has decided to break the core of the legal system in force
in our country. The violation of constitutionally enshrined guarantees demonstrates that the actions of the Executive Branch at this time do not correspond to a democratic period,” said Rodolfo Aguiar, general secretary of ATE, who had an emergency meeting via zoom.
Milei did not respond directly but did respond through a tweet from a user who shared the news of the forceful measures and commented: "
It would be a crime that the president will surely not let go
like everyone has done since 1983."
The President responded with : "Correct
.
"
And the head of ATE replied: "A crime is governing against the National Constitution, behind the back of Congress and harming the people. A constitutional president was elected, not a dictator. The right to strike, to assemble, to demonstrate; and the freedom of expression continue to be guaranteed by the Constitution."
Meanwhile, in Congress,
the Union for the Homeland bloc is preparing to fight a parliamentary battle
. Deputy Eduardo Valdés has already presented a draft request for a report to the Executive regarding the wave of layoffs in the National Disability Agency.
"Diego Orlando carried out the dismissal of 163 workers from the National Disability Agency throughout the country, some of them with more than 20 years of service, pregnant women, union delegates and people with disabilities. These dismissals are in addition to the 135 that had already been announced at the end of February," he noted.
