Around 1,600 homes were without electricity at the end of the day on Friday after the passage of depression Nelson in Rhône-Alpes, due to strong winds, manager Enedis told AFP. “Falling trees and flying branches damaging the electricity network lines are the main consequences of the passage of this depression,” Enedis explained in a report.
Friday morning, 400 homes were without electricity in the Loire, 500 in Ardèche, 200 in the Drôme, 1,600 homes impacted in the Rhône, and 2,000 in Ain. By the afternoon, around 6,600 homes were without power.
Around 7 p.m., “around a hundred technicians from Enedis and partner companies” were still mobilized for resupply operations. “Several dozen generators” were also transported to the affected areas.

Strong winds reached the center-east of the country on Friday, and Météo France consequently placed the departments of Loire and Rhône on orange alert.

Météo France recorded winds of up to 112 km/h in Lyon Bron, 111 km/h in Saint-Étienne, 106 km/h in Grenoble, or even 131 km/h in Chamrousse (Isère) at 1,730 m from altitude.
Regional rail traffic has experienced disruptions, due in particular to falling trees, according to the TER SNCF account and coaches”.
