Next month, Meta will launch a major update to the latest connected eyewear models made with EssilorLuxottica, the Ray-Ban SmartGlasses. These will be able to answer, via the artificial intelligence of Meta AI, questions based on cooks around the user. This was stated by the New York Times who spoke with a company spokesperson, able to confirm the arrival of the features for everyone, starting from the United States. At the moment, Meta allows a few people on a waiting list, and only in the US, to try the new features. It is not clear whether the news also concerns the Italian market but the Times reports that the glasses support English, Spanish, Italian, French and German, so it is likely that the update also affects our country. The American newspaper tested the experimental version of Meta AI, using it in different contexts. The first is the recognition of places of interest, thanks to the camera placed on one of the two lenses, which currently serves to take photos and record videos, which can then be managed on the smartphone app. The sensor will be able to analyze the places and, if necessary, report what it is, both via voice and with more information on the connected phone. But not only that: several influencers have published their previews on YouTube, with Meta AI also identifying species of animals in the zoo and particular plants. Another interesting function is the automatic translation of texts and audio conversation.
Ray-Bans integrate, in addition to two speakers, also microphones with which to speak in classic phone calls or via WhatsApp. Meta began multimodal AI testing for Ray-Ban glasses in December 2023.
