An Israeli citizen, 36 years old, was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) in Malaysia on the grounds that he entered the country to carry out a mysterious assassination - this is what the country's media said this evening. The case is known to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem, but no further details were provided.

The Federal Police in Malaysia reported that they made the arrest at the hotel where he was staying and that they seized the weapon intended for the assassination. Israelis are prohibited from entering Malaysia and the investigation revealed that he entered the country using a French passport and only presented his Israeli passport during his questioning.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Seri Razrudin Hussein said the man entered the country two weeks earlier, on March 12, through the capital's Kuala Lumpur International Airport on a flight via the United Arab Emirates.

But although, according to the police report, the Israeli has already admitted that his goal was to assassinate another Israeli, against the background of a family dispute, the authorities insist that this is not a purely criminal incident and that the circumstances are different. "We don't buy his story," the Malaysian commissioner said at a press conference, while emphasizing that the security of key figures in Malaysia such as the prime minister and the

king has been increased. "What's worse here is that the arrest took place during the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel, and we are vigilant about the security of The government, the king and other non-governmental organizations whose security we have to take into account." he said.

"We believe that the suspect did not act alone and has a local connection here whose identity we have not yet ascertained," said the Malaysian police commissioner, adding that the police are assisting the French embassy. The

local media say that when asked if the police do not rule out the possibility of the suspect's belonging to Israeli intelligence , the Commissioner said that "the ongoing investigations are also leading in this direction". The media in Malaysia mentions that the Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, condemned the "atrocities of Israel towards Palestine", and that the security over it has been increased since then, because of this.
