The water damage in the Holzkirchner daycare center should be repaired in May. Until then, the children will use a special kind of toilet.

Holzkirchen – The renovation of the daycare center “The Little Strolche” on Franz-von-Defregger-Straße has been delayed by a few weeks. As reported, the rooms affected by the water damage were originally supposed to be drained and usable again by the end of March. Now it will probably be mid-May, as Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU) explained at the citizens' meeting.

But that doesn't matter. Ultimately, the municipality, together with the staff of the daycare center, which has two kindergartens and a daycare group, as well as the parents, came up with an interim solution so that daycare operations could continue despite dismantling and renovation measures: “Otherwise we would have no care options for the children in the affected group had,” said Schmid. That's why it was decided to accommodate the group in the multi-purpose room of the daycare center - and to set up a mobile toilet container in the garden, as the group's children's toilet on the ground floor was also affected by the water damage. “Unfortunately there are no mobile children’s toilet containers,” Schmid reported at the citizens’ meeting.

The municipal building yard made a virtue out of necessity - and added an additional level to the container so that sinks, toilet bowls and mirrors were accessible to the small clientele. The building yard even built a heated and carpeted connecting corridor between the daycare center and the toilet container so that the children can go to the toilet in their slippers and without being exposed to the weather. The unusual sanitary facility with the additional level was extremely well received by the children: “The children in the other group said: 'We want to use this toilet too!'” reported Schmid.

It is now clear how long the cause of the water damage has existed: since the daycare center went into operation in 2010, as Schmid explained at the citizens' meeting. This was not yet clear in September 2023, when the cause of the water damage was discovered. As reported, a sewage pipe that leads from a small wet room on the upper floor to the ground floor was leaking. It had apparently come loose from its anchorage in the supply line shaft. So every time water flowed, some of it seeped into the surrounding building structure - for 14 years now. The wooden frame construction drew water and there was also minor mold formation, but according to experts this did not pose a health risk. However, the children's toilet on the ground floor and the adjacent dining and group room must be dismantled.
