It is ultimately not a cancellation but a relocation. After the lively controversy aroused this Wednesday by the presence of two Israeli intelligence officers, invited to Levallois-Perret at the Jewish community center for a conference entitled "After October 7: assessments and perspectives", the organizers decided to move this meeting in Paris, in association with the Unified Jewish Social Fund (FSJU), this Thursday evening.
For the ACCIL (Israelite Cult and Cultural Association of Levallois), this decision was taken “unilaterally” by the Memories Foundation, organizer of this conference. “There was no pressure from the public authorities and we had planned an important security system. This is also still activated given the attacks and attempts to destabilize those who today boast of having won their case", deplores the ACCIL this Thursday, assuring that it has on its side "never intended to give in.”
Because, from Tuesday, elected officials and pro-Palestinian activists informed by this conference, increased their actions. “Emergency Palestine is proposing a phoning action to try to cancel a conference of soldiers of the occupying army”, could we read on a document entitled “Action guide to put pressure on local authorities and departmental”. Result: the telephone switchboard in the town of Levallois was quickly overwhelmed with calls and emails.
An invitation from the United Jewish Social Fund
On social networks, LFI activists like Ismaël Boudjekada and parliamentarians, like the (LFI) deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis Thomas Portes, indicated that they had contacted the prefect to demand the cancellation of the conference. “The prefecture did not intervene and on the city side, we regret these intimidation procedures,” says Levallois’ first deputy, David-Xavier Weiss.
According to the ACCIL, it was the invitation made this Wednesday afternoon, in the middle of a storm, by the FSJU which would have prompted the Memories Foundation to change its plans. To prefer a location in the center of Paris, already highly secure in normal times. The meeting, however, keeps the same arrangements: at the same time (8 p.m.) and upon registration.
