Franco Iachi Bonvin, the tobacconist from Pavone Canavese (Turin) who shot and killed a thief while he was stealing from his shop, has been sent to trial on charges of voluntary homicide. The events occurred on the night between 6 and 7 June 2019. Iachi Bonvin shot dead a young man originally from Moldova, Ion Stavila, who was caught committing a theft with two other accomplices. In the initial stages of the investigation the trader was accused of excessive self-defense.
The partner of the murdered Moldovan will not be a civil party in the trial as she has already been compensated. Iachi Bonvin will be judged with the abbreviated trial as requested by the lawyers. "We will ask for acquittal under the new law on self-defense", explain the lawyers Mauro Ronco and Sara Rore Lazzaro. The hearing has been set for May 10th.
