Given the many hotels, there should be no shortage of large buyers: one applicant would like to build a district heating plant at the Taubensteinbahn car park on Spitzingsee.

Schliersee

- If things are currently getting hot at the valley station of the Taubensteinbahn, then it's either due to day trippers in the parking lot stress or to heated parties in the Spinnradl. Another heat source could soon be added: a wood chip cogeneration plant for a district heating network for the Spitzingsee district. The Schliersee building committee has now dealt with the application to build the necessary hall.

As building authority employee Annika Dietmannsberger reported, the planned construction window with a floor area of 25 by 14 meters is partly within the scope of the Taubensteinbahn valley station development plan, but partly also outside. A special area for cable car operations with company apartments, a restaurant and a discotheque has been specified for the area. There is currently only one parking area approved where the hall for the heating plant is to be built.

According to Dietmannsberger, if the building committee or the local council supports the planning, the administration will suggest drawing up a project-related development plan with an implementation contract. This can ensure that the development is actually only used for a functional district heating network. In addition, the line rights necessary for the distribution of the heat generated should first be clarified with the affected property owners and the Rosenheim State Building Authority and their notarial security should be linked to the contract. A detailed supply concept and preliminary contracts with future district heating customers must also be presented, as the operating description submitted does not provide any information on this. Since the property is also located in a landscape, bird and pasture protection area, a scoping appointment with the affected public authorities makes sense.

Many hotels with high heat requirements

Vice Mayor Philipp Krogoll (Die Schlierseer), who chaired the meeting on behalf of Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer (CSU), welcomed the project. “That’s a good thing,” said Krogoll, referring to the high heat requirements of the many hotels and guesthouses on Spitzingsee. He also heard that the potential operator of the thermal power plant already had such a system running elsewhere and had corresponding experience. It should also be positively mentioned that the applicant offered to set up a dry gravel storage facility in the hall and, if possible, parking spaces for winter service vehicles. However, according to Krogoll, what is exciting is how the town center will be connected to the heating plant. “The line either has to go through the tunnel or along the outside of the lake.”

Gerhard Waas (Greens) also spoke out very much in favor of this regenerative heat generation project. However, he noted that it was a good kilometer away from the first potential major buyer, the Arabella Hotel. For this reason and also in view of the loss of parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the cable car, Waas asked whether another location for the hall might also be conceivable. Krogoll shook his head at the different landowners in this area.

Wood chip storage is filled weekly

When Wolfgang Mundel (CSU) and Horst Teckhaus (PWG) asked whether the wood chip storage was really planned to be sufficiently large, Waas answered in the affirmative and explained that such systems are usually refilled weekly. Jürgen Höltschl (CSU) concluded that this would probably not be a problem here thanks to the good accessibility for trucks. The advisory committee member Heinz Blees found that the hall also did not disturb the appearance of the area. “It’s not visible from the street.”

The building committee members then unanimously made the recommendation to draw up a project-related development plan with an implementation contract and all the tests suggested by the administration. Waas also suggested that municipal heat planning, which is now once again supported by the state, be started at the same time. The fact that the operator is serious about the project can be seen from the stated wish for a start date, said Krogoll: “He wants to get started in November.”
