– The motorcycle driving ban, which will apply again from Easter Monday on Kesselberg, is also causing discussions for the second year. From April 1st to October 31st on the winding section of the B11 on all days of the week: Motorcycles are not allowed to drive uphill - i.e. from Kochel towards Urfeld - between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. After a two-year test phase, the responsible authorities – the district office, the police and the state building authority – want to evaluate whether this regulation has proven successful. Kochel's new mayor Jens Müller definitely likes the driving ban as it is. In the interview he also comments on the sensational case of an angry motorcyclist who insulted two construction yard employees on Kesselberg.

Mr. Müller, what are your feelings about the motorcycle season on the Kesselberg and the entry into force of the driving ban?

I have supported this regulation from the beginning and am happy that the driving ban is now coming into force again. I wouldn't have thought it a good idea to postpone the start date this year because of Easter. If it prevents just one accident, then it's worth it.

In your opinion, does the driving ban in its current form have a future?

I think it's just the right size. The fact that there were no relevant accidents during the driving ban last year is a success. The long-suffering residents now also have a period of time in which they are largely free from the noise of motorcycles because driving back and forth is stopped. I see that as a positive takeaway effect. But I also want every motorcyclist to have fun and freedom. The day-tripper is not an enemy for us, on the contrary, we need them, and many restaurateurs need motorcyclists as guests. The whole thing is a balancing act. But the fact that all groups now say they can live with the current regulation shows that it is a good compromise. From the current perspective, there is nothing to be said against continuing the regulation as it is. I am not in favor of extending the driving ban period.

Speaking of Kesselberg: An incident caused a lot of attention these days. A motorcyclist was furious that the police had confiscated his bike and he had to walk back towards Kochel. He walked in the middle of the road and ended up insulting two construction yard employees. What do you say about this case?

As a lawyer, I have defended people like this. It can happen that you go crazy in such a situation when you are so excited. But you have to own up to your mistake afterwards. I therefore advocate that the motorcyclist apologize properly to our construction yard employees - perhaps even publicly. Then I would lobby the affected building yard people to withdraw the criminal complaint.
