It was in New York that Maria Grazia Chiuri, artistic director of women's collections at Dior, presented her Pre-Fall 2024 collection on April 15. More precisely in the heart of the Brooklyn Museum, the second largest art museum in New York City, designed for the occasion by conceptual artists Fulvia Carnevale and James Thornhill (duo from the Claire Fontaine collective). And who says Dior fashion show says prestigious guests: in the front row of the show, we met the ambassador Anya Taylor-Joy, the actress Diane Kruger in total denim look, Charlize Theron and her daughter August... But also Laetitia Casta, wearing a pair of gold mesh mules that day.
A trompe-l'oeil accessory, which gives the impression that fishnet tights have been slipped over the shoe. However, the fishnet stocking is deliberately integrated into the golden shoe, a signature of the Dior house which also declines this type of model season after season. To put on these shoes, simply slide your foot inside the fishnet stockings, as you would with a pair of thigh-high boots.
At Dior, fabric with holes is everywhere. When it doesn't cover a pair of platform pumps like during the Pre-Fall 2024 fashion show, it can be found on a top or a dress as seen in previous collections. On April 15, Laetitia Casta therefore adopted these surprising shoes by combining them with a black sweater with a Bardot collar and a long sparkling skirt in the same shade.
An old Hollywood collection
For her fashion show presented on April 15, Maria Grazia Chiuri turned back time: heading to Hollywood in the 1930s, where the “boy” redefined the notion of femininity. On the catwalk, the waist is sometimes marked by the cut of a suit, sometimes married by a mesh dress. A collection inspired by the naturalized American German actress Marlene Dietrich whose costumes “aroused scandal, claiming a freedom which, let us not forget, requires the choice of every woman to dress as she wishes,” specifies a statement of intent. A mix of glamorous codes inseparable from old Hollywood and more daring pieces like a trench coat printed with a Statue of Liberty.
