The marbled loaf cake is prepared in three simple steps

  • While the oven is preheating to 180 degrees top and bottom heat, grease the baking pan thoroughly with butter or oil. First, mix the flour, baking powder, sugar, vanilla sugar and salt with the eggs, cream and oil using a hand mixer in a large mixing bowl to form a smooth dough.

  • Then pour half of the dough into another bowl and add the baking cocoa. Now pour half of the light dough into the pre-greased loaf pan, then the dark dough and finally the remaining light dough. To get the pretty marbling, pull the dough through the dough in waves with a fork. However, to avoid the two doughs visually mixing, you should not stir too much.

  • The cake is now baked on the middle rack in the preheated oven for three quarters of an hour until you can make the first stick test. If the dough sticks to the wooden skewer, the cake needs a little more. After removing the cake, let it cool down and optionally sprinkle with powdered sugar. Bon appetit!

  • If you're baking for a picnic or children's birthday party, you can easily bake the classic marble cake in handy muffin tins.

If you're craving a fruity, fresh dessert and you can't get enough of the marbled cake look, the colorfully patterned raspberry zebra cake is just the thing for your next baking session.
