Just a few days before his death, Wolfgang Schäuble completed work on his book. The original plan was for a fall 2024 release. In order to honor Schäuble's important political legacy, Klett-Cotta Verlag, in agreement with Schäuble's family, has decided to bring forward the publication date. The book will be available in stores from the beginning of April.

In “Memories – My Life in Politics,” the politician, who died on Boxing Day surrounded by his family, talks about more than 50 years of German and European politics. As a federal minister, party leader of the CDU, president of the Bundestag and passionate parliamentarian, he shaped the political events of the Federal Republic and observed the hidden mechanisms of political operations up close.
The autobiography tells his unique political life. Starting from his parliamentary apprenticeship in the 1970s, from his time as Helmut Kohl's closest companion, as the architect of the unification agreement, through the assassination attempt and the drama of the donation scandal, to his incredible comeback as a minister during Angela Merkel's chancellorship. He is also considered the inventor of the “black zero”, an actor in the euro and Greek crises, who at the same time remained one of the most influential party politicians in the history of the Federal Republic.
Wolfgang Schäuble worked on his book with great seriousness and joy. It was important to him to once again convey this incomparable political life to a large audience. It is shocking that he will no longer live to see the publication. He now leaves behind a great work of contemporary German and European history and a legacy of the values and attitudes that Wolfgang Schäuble stood for throughout his life.
