Many types of apples are suitable for baking; Elstar or Boskop apples can be used for waffles. Both varieties impress with their sweet and sour taste and are also easy to grate. If you don't have a waffle iron at hand, you can switch to cake and conjure up Grandma's classic apple and sour cream cake or perhaps an applesauce cake from the tray.
