April to May is the planting time for flower bulbs and tubers, which bloom in summer. But you shouldn't be hasty, some are sensitive to frost.
For tulips, crocuses and other spring-blooming flowers, the best time to plant is clearly autumn. They are robust enough to survive the frosty winter - as long as the bulbs have not already sprouted. Plants that only bloom in summer are in most cases a little more sensitive; their bulbs and tubers only come into the ground in mid to late April, depending on the variety. Frosts are only very unlikely after the ice saints in mid-May.

As with lawn care, the soil temperature should be above ten degrees Celsius when planting flowers. Begonias and dahlias, even if they have been overwintered indoors, should be planted a little later as they are among the species that are particularly sensitive to cold. The types of lilies can usually be put in the bed or in the pot as early as March - with the exception of the Madonna lily, which is not planted until August.
The following bulbs and tubers are planted from mid-April:
Star gladioli (Acidanthera)
Gladiolus (Gladiolus)
African lilies (Agapanthus)
Daylilies (Hemerocallis)
Freesias (Freesia)
Tiger flowers (Tigridia)
Summer hyacinths (Galtonia)
Montbretia (Crocosmia)
Flower cane (Canna)
Outdoor Gloxinia (Incarvillea)
Dahlias (Dahlia) from the end of April
Begonias (Begonia) from the end of April

Place the bulbs or tubers as indicated on the plant label at the appropriate depth (about twice as deep as they are high) in the soil, which has been loosened all around and ideally enriched with compost. If you plant them too deep, they often only produce weak flowers. The first flowers appear from June onwards.
