Traffic tickets from vacation are often just an annoying souvenir. However, a new police agreement with Switzerland will apply from May 2024.
Munich – Speed offenders and illegal parkers receive hefty fines in Switzerland. Motorists from Germany were able to partially ignore these harsh penalties and simply no longer enter the country. However, that will change from May 1, 2024. Germany and Switzerland are taking stricter measures. The new law also affects vacationers.
Traffic tickets from Switzerland: Things are getting tight for speeders and illegal parkers
Traffic tickets from neighboring Switzerland (non-EU country) can be enforced in Germany from May 1st, warns the ADAC. Traffic violations in Germany can also be prosecuted in Switzerland. According to the ADAC, a so-called “minor limit” applies: fines with procedural costs of at least 70 euros in Germany or 80 Swiss francs in Switzerland.

Vacationers, beware! New police agreement with Germany will ensure drastic penalties in the Alpine country from May
“The fines for traffic violations are significantly higher in Switzerland than in Germany and can also be enforced there with effect from May 1, 2024,” says the Foreign Office about neighboring Switzerland in the associated travel information. If you exceed the speed limit significantly, you could face fines, imprisonment or the withdrawal of your vehicle or driving license.
The fines in Switzerland are very high compared to Germany, as examples of typical offenses show:

Speed limit on the highway? These rules apply in Switzerland
Before traveling to a neighboring country, holidaymakers should familiarize themselves with the most important traffic rules, recommend ADAC and the Foreign Office:
A maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour is permitted on Swiss motorways, outside of urban areas the speed limit is 80 and 50 km/h in urban areas.
During the day you must drive with dipped beam or daytime running lights; you must have lights on all year round.
By the way, rail vehicles always have priority in urban areas in Switzerland.
On mountain roads, the vehicle traveling uphill has the right of way.
In Switzerland, a holiday destination, some communities are cracking down on an inappropriate behavior. A speed camera in Austria, on the other hand, is doing record work.
