Legal initiative by a Palestinian lawyer, Salahaldin Abdalaty, against the Italian government for "civil co-responsibility" in the "human rights violations committed in Gaza by the Israeli authorities". With the assistance of a group of four colleagues, all from the Turin Court, Abdalaty filed an appeal with the Rome court in which, referring to a series of national and international rules, he asks the judges to "urgently" order the Presidency of the Council and a series of measures to the foreign and defense ministries: among these include the immediate imposition of the ban on the sale and transfer of weapons.
Other measures include the re-establishment of Italy's participation in funding for UNRWA (the UN agency for the relief of Palestinian refugees), the suspension of any "direct or indirect" support for Israeli military operations, the government's favorable vote at the UN, European Council "and any other international body" to any initiative aimed "at unconditionally ceasing military operations in the Gaza Strip".
Abdalaty is supported by Turin lawyers StefanoBertone, Marco Bona, Gianluca Vitale and Emanuele D'Amico. The lawyers, in the appeal, cite the "very serious damages suffered by the appellant", noting that last December 7, during an Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip, his mother, brother, sister, sister-in-law, a nephew and a sixth member of his family died. The lawyer, who is a member of the Palestinian Bar Association, is now in Egypt.
